R&D&I and Circular Economy: Biovege and Ecobionet

R&D&i and Circular Economy, terms that we recover again due to the importance that they represent for Ecoplas.

The Circular Economy is the process of manufacturing goods or services that prioritizes the use of resources and the reduction of raw materials. It thus becomes an alternative to the current manufacturing model and therefore a solution that respects the environment and extends the useful life of things.

Thanks to R&D&I and the Circular Economy, it is intended to convert waste into new raw materials: the change towards a more efficient economy in the use of its resources is supported, identifying new opportunities for economic growth, promoting innovation and guaranteeing the security of supplies.

At Ecoplas we continue working to provide sustainable food packaging solutions, as reflected in our participation in various R&D&i and Circular Economy projects.

Today we present two of them:

First of all, we will talk about the Biovege Project:

It is a project for the revaluation of agricultural waste that achieves the manufacture of biodegradable and compostable nets, as well as colorants and food additives. This project, led by Alhóndiga la Unión in collaboration with Ecoplas, has allowed tons of fruit and vegetable by-products, which had no recovery and ended up in the landfill, to be transformed into high-value substances for the packaging and food industry.

On the other hand, the Ecobionet project focused on the manufacture of biodegradable and compostable nets based on plant waste.

It involves creating an innovative container but with the same functionality as conventional nets and therefore suitable for the same uses: container for garlic, onions, potatoes, seafood, etc. They thus become organic waste that can be disposed of together with the rest of the organic matter in the brown container.

Besides being biodegradable extruded nets they are also compostable. Therefore, in conditions of industrial compostability, they can be used as fertilizer for plants in less than six months.
