Head of Manufacturing: David García

David García, Head of Manufacturing at Ecoplas: “We have been among the first to bet on bio materials, but we also continue to develop other new products so that they fit perfectly in the times in which we have to live”

We spoke with David García, Head of Manufacturing at Ecoplas to learn about his personal and professional experience within the company, how he has experienced the changes that Ecoplas has undergone in recent years and how the original philosophy based on “the famous 5 Rs” led them to be the pioneers in the commitment to biodegradable and / or biocompostable products.

1- TELL US YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS THE MANUFACTURER MANAGER OF ECOPLAS: HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE COMPANY? WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED IN THE COMPANY IN THE LAST YEARS?

I have been in this company for 13 years and I have witnessed the evolution of Ecoplas, as well as the efforts that this growth has meant for each and every one of us who are part of this team. This effort, both on the part of management and plant workers, has been enormous and the growth and development policy that we are carrying out is very powerful.

The strategic plan that the company has set out in the short term is once again a challenge for all of us, but it is not something very different from the path we have been following in all Ecoplas departments.

Since my incorporation in 2008, our production has multiplied exponentially, as well as our staff. The progress has been clear and significant and we are trying to show our differentiating point in the market.

2- WHAT HAVE BEEN THE TWO OR THREE CRUCIAL MOMENTS IN YOUR EXPERIENCE AS AN ECOPLAS WORKER?

Within my experience, the moments that have marked my professional career at Ecoplas have been two.

  • The first, which has also been an important professional challenge, has been to be in charge of our SAT service. The market for which we work is very demanding and requires almost personalized and immediate attention, which means almost total availability. I have been for many years focused on immediate customer service and problem solving.
  • For a couple of years, the company management asked me to take over our production plant. This was a new challenge for me and of course, serving the customer in a totally different way, actively participating in the development of the final product.

3- HOW HAS THE TECHNOLOGY AND MANUFACTURING METHODS RELATED TO THE NEW ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS EVOLVED? WHAT ROLE DOES ECOPLAS PLAY IN THE REDUCE-RECYCLE-REUSE CHALLENGE AND HOW DOES IT LEAD THE WAY BY CHANGING PACKAGING HABITS?

At Ecoplas we are very aware of the 5 “R”

  • Reject
  • Reduce
  • Re-use
  • Recycle
  • Reincorporate

Even without knowing it, they have always been part of the company’s philosophy, both internally with the use of our products and raw materials, and externally, with the products that we present to the market. We have been among the first to bet on bio materials and we continue working on it; but we also continue to develop our other products so that they fit perfectly in the times in which we have lived.

From the different departments we continue working to make the whole process as efficient, ecological and less harmful to the environment as possible. It is a topic that everyone talks about but in which we can ensure that we are 100% involved and in which we continue and will continue to strive to make our products as respectful as possible with our planet.

4- WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG PROFESSIONALS STARTING THEIR WORK CAREER? WHO IS YOUR MODEL TO FOLLOW?

I am not much of giving this type of advice, but if I have to contribute some it would be these two:

  • That they are as professional as possible in their work.
  •  That they go to work every day to give their best and in this way, to be able to do their work in an exceptional way.

My role models are all people who are passionate about what they do, from my grandparents who were professionals of the sea and the countryside and who felt that passion for their jobs, my parents, my bosses and also all my colleagues who thanks to their generosity and involvement in work make my enthusiasm for my work not going away and remain strong and firm every day.
